Jude 1:20-21
20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,
21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
I meet many people that ask me how to build themselves up in the faith. It is amazing how many people will move forward in the things of God and get baptized in the Holy Spirit and speak in other tongues (praying in the Holy Ghost) and never use this precious gift. They study the word, pray, and yet wonder why other saints are growing in the faith much faster than they are. The secret, though is is hardly a secret, is that these other saints are praying in the Holy Ghost. I pray in other tongues hours each day, and cannot understand why a saint would neglect this gift of perfect prayer between their spirit and the Lord.
Many of the most faith-filled and anointed men and women of God I have met have been those that share my love for praying in the Spirit. They did not wonder why I prayed in tongues so much, as they knew it was a key to building oneself up on the most holy faith! I am not talking about praying in the Spirit in church, as the Scripture gives plain instructions on that in 1 Corinthians 14. I am talking about in your daily life. I am talking about while taking a shower, you could be busy building up your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost. While exercising, you could be busy building up your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost. While driving to and from places, you could be busy building up your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost. There is no limit to where you could be building up your most holy faith through praying in the Holy Ghost.
1 Corinthians 14:14-19
14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.
15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.
16 Else when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest?
17 For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified.
18 I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:
19 Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.
The church is not the place to be speaking in an unknown tongue aloud unless there is an interpreter, as the Scripture saith, "But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God" (1 Corinthians 14:28). In the verses above we find that the Apostle Paul thanks God that he spoke in tongues more than all the Corinthian Church (1 Corinthians 14:18). Why would modern saints think they are any better than this great Apostle who thanked God for this precious gift and the blessing it provides? Praying in the Spirit is for your personal edification, which is why when we come together in church we are to pray in the Spirit between ourselves and God and not for the whole church to hear, except there is an interpretation to be given.
Even in blessing food, praying in the Spirit is giving thanks well (1 Corinthians 14:17), but the others are not edified. We must always consider our brethren around us when praying in the Spirit, as not to become selfish in being edified while they are not receiving edification. There is no reason why people are not praying in the Holy Ghost more and more in their private prayer lives and daily walk. I wake up with tongues flowing out of my spirit and go to bed the same. I am just a faith-filled saint, no better than anyone else cleansed by the blood of the Lamb; but I see other saints that study the word as much as I do, pray with their understanding as much as I do, live a walk of holiness as I do, and yet they do not have the power of God in their lives that I have. I have often wondered why such saints did not have this power, as God is no respecter of persons, and what He will do for one He will do for another. The thing that is causing their deficiency in the power of God is because they are neglecting praying in the Holy Ghost, as it is so important in one's faith walk.
The Lord has quickened to my spirit that the very verses 1 Corinthians 14 have been used of the devil to confuse many into not praying in the Holy Ghost. They have been tricked by the devil into believing that without an interpreter, they should not speak in other tongues anywhere. As we have seen this is plainly referring to in the church, and not in our daily life. We are commanded of the Lord to build up ourselves on our "most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost" (Jude 1:20), and in the church we have certain rules on the operation of praying in the Holy Ghost. Dear saints, please do not let the devil rob you of God's greater blessings.
Do not let the devil pervert rules given of God for instruction on how to conduct one's self in church (to keep the church free from confusion and to have all things done in order) and have the devil attempt to harm your prayer life through telling you nonsense like, "Tongues have ceased," or "Tongues are not profitable;" and other such lies of the devil. Outside the church, one should pray without ceasing, both with their understanding and in the Holy Ghost, PRAISE GOD. As Paul said, "For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also." (1 Corinthians 14:14-15). And inside the church we should follow the Lord's rules for the operation of this gift of the Spirit as plainly given in 1 Corinthians 14!
If the beloved Apostle Paul thanked God that he prayed in tongues more than all the Corinthian church (1 Corinthians 14:18), do you pray in tongues every day? Do you thank God for this precious gift that helps you to build up yourself on your most holy faith? Have you sought to build up yourself in the faith and yet you do not pray in tongues daily? You should get before the Lord and repent for neglecting the gift given and begin praying in the Holy Ghost daily.
If you have never been baptized in the Holy Ghost for the power from on high and prayed in unknown tongues and you are born-again then please pray this prayer below in faith, believing. (if you are not born-again, repent of all your sins in full faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour and Lord and then pray this prayer):
Now just begin to speak out the words or syllables that you hear in your spirit. You do not have to make up words, for the Holy Spirit will give you the utterance. Just submit to Him and freely receive! For more information about this Power From on High please click here. Please send me an email letting me know of the work God has done for you through this article.Father, I come to you today in the name of Thy holy child Jesus. Your Son taught that if we then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto our children: how much more shall our heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? [Luke 11:13] Father, I believe this promise and ask you to give me the promise of the Holy Spirit baptism! I fully receive it now and thank you and praise you for it!
