The definition of a lie is: an attempt
to deceive by words. A lie does not hinge on whether or not one is
deceived by it. The very attempt to deceive someone by words is lying.
This is a practice the Bible forbids and says will damn the soul to
hell.
Colossians 3:9-10
9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
All true believers "have put on the new man"
and they should not backslide into the sin of lying. Lying will, no
matter what man's opinion may be, damn the soul of anyone who does it.
It is the believer's nature as a new creature in Christ (2 Corinthians
5:17) to be truthful in all matters. They should never attempt to
deceive anyone in any way.
I have heard many people make up vain arguments in favor of lying for
certain reasons. They will use Rehab as their
excuse to lie to "protect people," but Acts 17:30 applies to her case.
The problem with this type of reasoning is that it places the faith for
protection in one's ability to commit the sin of lying and not in God.
This is wicked and damnable to say the least.
Revelation 21:8
8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
What could paint a clearer picture of the future eternal state of a
liar. They will spend all eternity suffering "in the lake which burneth
with fire and brimstone." They will have no part with the saved, nor
are any unrepentant liars saved, because "except ye repent, ye shall
all likewise perish" (Luke 13:3, 5).
Revelation 22:14-15
14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.
Many professing "Christians" today are quick to condemn the sodomites
(dogs), sorcerers, whoremongers, murderers, and idolaters, while they
themselves lie, thus standing just as condemned as those they condemn.
John 3:36
36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
The
word translated "believeth not" implies unbelief that causes
disobedience. To truly endure to the end and be saved (Matthew 10:22;
24:13; Mark 13:13) one must remain obedient to the Son of God, Jesus
Christ. Otherwise they will not see eternal life, but will have God's
permanent wrath abiding on them.
Believers must never lie, but should always be fully truthful. Be a
follower of God (Ephesians 5:1) and never lie (Titus 1:2; Hebrews 6:17).
