Sabbath Keeper Loses His Job

SABBATH KEEPER LOSES HIS JOB

Here is a story from Religion Today, Saturday, April 17, 1999:

A Kentucky mining company fired a Christian for observing the Sabbath, a state commission said. The Kentucky Commission on Human Rights said that the Grand Eagle Mining Co. in Henderson discriminated against miner Ted Baker because of his religious beliefs. The company said Baker was fired in June 1996 for sleeping on the job and demonstrating a bad attitude. The company did not issue Baker a reprimand for either offense, the commission said.

...Baker said the problems began when he became a Christian and asked to have Sundays off. He was suspended for three days after taking a Sunday off when he was scheduled to work, even though company policy does not call for such a punishment for a first offense. He was fired when managers accused him of falling asleep on the job. The commission ordered the company to reinstate Baker with full back pay, benefits, and to pay $25,000 in damages, the Associated Press said.

This is probably looked at by most as a victory for the gospel, but it is not. Nowhere in the New Testament are we required to keep the Sabbath, and not showing up for work and being irresponsible are far greater offenses in God's eyes then failing to keep a law that HE DID AWAY WITH! I am tired of Christians fighting for things that have no bearing on the gospel and compromising on the important things.

Romans 14:5-6
5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.
6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.

There was a police officer here in Dallas that some "evangelicals" were praising because he rebelled against the authority set over him. His reason for rebellion? So he could wear a cross pin on his shirt! Other officers were not allowed to wear any jewelry that got in the way of their uniform (for obvious reasons, they are police, not billboards!). I find all such rebellion rooted in pride and sin. God does not require nor lead rebellion against authority for ridiculous reasons. No Christian's religious rights are affected by not wearing a pin or not keeping the Sabbath. If you think they are please give me Chapter and verse proving it!

It seems that a lot of American "Christianity" is for the most part effeminate and totally weak. They experience no actual persecution and have to make up persecution. They whine an cry about minor things (and even unscriptural things, i.e. Sabbath keeping), but back down at the least sign of conflict in the big things. We true Bible believers need to distance ourselves from these people claiming to be Christians. Let us always be quick to stand up for our rights, but also be quick to "Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord" (Hebrews 12:14).
