THE THREE AGES OF THE HEAVEN AND EARTH
By Ryan Hicks
The Bible teaches that there have been two ages of the heavens and earth, and that in the future there will be a second and final age in relation to the heavens and earth. In this study we will call these ages the "ages of the heaven and earth."
WHAT ARE THESE THREE AGES?
"The ages of the heavens and earth" is simply a way of saying the period of time before the heavens and earth enter another age. These ages are different than the ages and dispensations that relate to man, for these ages relate to the heavens and earth.
2 Peter 3:5-7
5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
From this verse we can clearly see the three earth ages. They are:
- The heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water (Gen. 1:1; 2 Pet. 3:5-6)
- The heavens and the earth, which are now (Gen. 1:3-2:25; Ex. 20:11; 2 Pet. 3:7)
- The new heavens and new earth (Is. 65:17; 66:22-24; 2 Pet. 3:7, 12-13; Rev. 21:1)
