HOLY GHOST REVIVAL?

Today there are many claimed "revivals." I will not mention any of them by name in this article because I do not believe they are worth mentioning. It is much easier to refer to the whole revival movement in general. They all follow the same patterns with only a few variations church by church. Overall these modern "revivals" are more like modern apostasy.

These false revivals generally claim to be charismatic, and thus give Bible believers a bad name. True charismatics believe in the spiritual gifts and operate in them in a Biblical manner. They are obedient to the Bible and do not pervert gifts of the Spirit and/or entertain false spirit's "gifts" in order to exalt self and gifts. True born-again, Spirit-baptized believers do not make a fleshly show out of the things of the Spirit like many people who claim to be charismatics today do.

BUT PEOPLE GET SAVED!

This is one of the first objections people have to us who believe the Bible alone and reject the works of men and man made religion. "Surely," they reason, "it must be of God if people are getting saved!" This type belief puts WAY too much credit on the part of the "revival" and leaves out the drawing of God and free will of man.

The devil is not stupid. He is crafty and does things with a purpose. He has been gleefully leading people into sin and eventually eternal damnation for years. He knows what works with people and what does not. The point is that the devil could care less if a few souls get saved in the environment of apostasy because he knows it will not be long until they have backslidden and become "twice dead" (Jude 12). Also, he knows that a few souls getting saved during the "revivals" keeps the backsliders and apostates feeling secure about their falling away and fleshly show.

BUT THEY PREACH HOLINESS!

This is what helps these revivals to maintain some appearance of being Christian to the world. Most of these revivals preach fairly good on holiness, but this is what the Bible has said all along about Satan's ministers.

2 Corinthians 11:12-15
12 But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion; that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we.
13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.
14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

Satan is not going to only have ministers that preach sin. No, he tries to counterfeit God's ministers by having good preachers and teachers, but by their works they do away with anything they teach or preach.

WHAT ARE THE WORKS OF THESE MODERN "REVIVALS?"


Below is a table with the fruit of these revivals along with the explanation of the fruit.

FRUIT EXPLANATION
SPEAKING IN TONGUES

This is a Biblical gift that God gives to believers. It is not required for salvation, nor is it the sign of one being filled with the power of God. It is A sign (Acts 10:45-46), but not THE sign. The sign is that of power for witnessing (Acts 1:8), which can include various spiritual gifts. God give us very clear regulation on the usage of tongues in the church (only by two or three and it MUST be interpreted, 1 Corinthians 14:27-28) and allows everyone to speak in tongues in private prayer to God (1 Corinthians 14:2, 4-5, 13-15, 18, 39), but He rebukes the abuse of this gift through confusion and disorder (1 Corinthians 14:19, 23, 33, 40).

Yet, in these revivals the usage of tongues is the farthest thing from orderly and non-confusing. It would be doubtful that the genuine gift of tongues is being displayed at all, and if it is then these people are using it in a backslidden and rebellious condition. This being because God GIVES you this language or languages and the Holy Spirit does not control its use, thus explaining the commands on regulating its use. The Holy Spirit would not need controlling if He was the one controlling one's speaking in other tongues.

These revivals show forth wild chanting type tongues, Indian war calls, and other very pagan type tongues. The usage of devil and/or human inspired tongues is common in the ecstatic worship of many pagan religions. The Hindus, Mormons, and other false religions have all experienced the counterfeit tongues that arise from either devil influence or fleshly emotions. These "tongues" sound more like gibberish compared to the Biblical gift of tongues which has a common pattern and sound to it like any language does.
BEING SLAIN IN THE SPIRIT This is generally nothing more than emotionalism and devil possession. Most come away feeling great, but after a couple of hours to a couple of days they have vile imaginations and do all kinds of things they normally would not. This is because they became devil possessed. This is not always common as I have "been slain in the Spirit" under the power of God in personal prayer before. It was not a show, and was between myself and the Lord. It is hard to stand under the power of God.

The people in these revivals have "catchers" to catch the people falling. Why? Because the leaders of the revivals know that God is not behind the practice of being slain in the Spirit and thus want to avoid injuries due to fleshly displays and devils entering people and causing them to be slain in "a" spirit, an unclean spirit.

Also, it is interesting to note that the only people in the Bible that fell backwards in the presence of God were God's enemies (John 18:6). Maybe these people are being "slain in the Spirit," because they are God's enemies. If that be the case then it truly is the Spirit of God "slaying" them.
ROARING AND BARKING This is a sure sign of devil possession or a total giving of one's self over to the flesh. Many of these false revivalists claim that the roaring is a sign of Jesus being the lion of the tribe of Judah, but in actuality it is a sign of the devil, for the Scriptures say:

1 Peter 5:8-9
8   Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
9   Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

Notice that this warning about the devil is began by saying for us to BE SOBER! It is not anywhere close to sober to take part in these weirdo activities that many Charismatics claim are from God. What is sober about roaring and barking? We are to resist the devil stedfast in the faith and not give into him by roaring and barking and playing the fool for the devil!
PUKING OR THROWING UP This is as sure a sign as any that you are either sick and/or devil possessed. In the context of a pretend revival it is clearly a sign of devil possession. Throwing up is no blessing of God, but it could be a result of entering into union with a false god, Satan, the god of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4).


It is interesting that after the man that had Legion had been made free from the devils by the Lord Jesus Christ the Scripture says "...see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind" (Mark 5:15). He was not rolling around, barfing, roaring, barking, "slain in the spirit," or anything else. No, he was sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind. This Charismatic lunacy is not being in one's right mind. No Christian should take part in this nonsense. Repent and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and stop looking to man and the devilish "spiritual" power for a revival. Look to the Lord Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit to empower you so that you can be a greater witness for Him, and not be a fool for the devil and his unclean spirits.
